Every dog loves to have a special treat, and in the heat of summer – why not treat them to their own “pup-sicle”!? This is a nice way to cool down, chomp on some icey goodness, and enjoy a nutritious treat. Momma Tongue and Axle took some time and hosted their own cooking show, to explain how they create the very best pupsicles. Axle added a few extra…ingredients…like drool. Yuck! I personally wouldn’t eat anything that came out of their kitchen, but they had a great time creating this amazing treat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So – how do we make pupsicles you ask?! Much like human popsicles, we have a washable and reusable silicone Popsicle Mold<\/u><\/a> – and really like this one because the pupsicles pop right out – no<\/p>\n\n\n\n

mess, no fuss, just an easy treat! For dogs, I don’t use the standard popsicle sticks that come with the mold – instead we use organic carrots, cellery, Bully Sticks<\/u><\/a> or even Dentastix<\/u><\/a> – this gives the dog a “handle” of sorts to hold onto their treat and chew effectively. Now – for the actual pupsicle part! The ingredients can truthfully be any dog safe food you have around the kitchen, but we certainly have a few favorites. Blueberries, corn, and even a few pieces of dog kibble are great additions to the pupsicle. Simply add a few of these to the popsicle mold. My dogs LOVE spinach, so sometimes we add spinach too! Choosing ingredients that are organic, and packed full of antioxidants (like blueberries) is certainly a good way to give your dogs a healthy snack. Once you have added the dry\/solid ingredients, it is time to top up the popsicle mold with water. Dogs love flavour – so something aromatic and nutritionally beneficial is a great idea! The bone broth we use is from Honest Kitchen<\/u><\/a> – I really like this one because it offers a boost of protein, but Honest Kitchen also offers a wonderful Herbal Digestive Supplement<\/u><\/a> that could be used to create a broth as well. Once you have selected your broth of choice, mix in water so it is a homogenous mixture. Add this liquid mixture to the popsicle mold, and then you’re ready to add in the “stick” so they have a handle. Pop the tray into the freezer for a few hours; once frozen – pop them out of the tray for your pup to enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
